Experience and qualifications

I’m a Counselling Therapist and Addiction Counsellor with over ten years of experience supporting individuals and families facing mental health and substance use challenges. My work has focused on trauma, addiction, and complex mental health concerns, with a particular emphasis on youth, young adults, and marginalized communities.

I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Sociology from the University of Alberta and am currently completing a Master of Counselling through Athabasca University. I’m registered with the Association of Counselling Therapy of Alberta (ACTA) as both a Counselling Therapist and an Addiction Counsellor.

My approach is trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and grounded in collaboration. Over the years, I’ve worked in both residential and community-based settings, supporting individuals through counselling, crisis intervention, case coordination, and system navigation. I also contribute to the field through training, consultation, and national standards development in trauma-informed care.

I tailor my approach to meet each client’s unique needs, drawing from a range of evidence-based and trauma-informed modalities. These include:

  • Motivational Interviewing (MI) – to support change in a compassionate, collaborative way

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) – to explore how thoughts, emotions, and behaviours are connected

  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy–Informed Skills – to build emotional regulation, mindfulness, and distress tolerance

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) – to help align actions with values, even in the face of difficult thoughts or feelings

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) – to work with different parts of the self from a place of curiosity and compassion

  • Narrative Therapy – to explore and re-author the stories we carry about ourselves and our experiences

  • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) – to identify strengths and move toward meaningful goals

As a former student athlete, I understand firsthand the unique pressures and demands that come with balancing academics, performance, relationships, and identity both on and off the field/pitch/ice/gym/court, etc. This experience has shaped my passion for supporting student athletes through counselling. I’m particularly interested in helping them navigate challenges such as performance anxiety, injury, identity transitions, processing stressful experiences, and the intense pressure to succeed—all within the context of sport culture. My goal is to create a space where athletes feel understood not just as performers, but as whole people. While progress in these areas might result in better athletic performance, a practitioner specializing in sports performance will be better suited to helping you specifically improve your training and competition outcomes.
